Filters

It's 12:31AM; I can't fall asleep; I have some blogable thoughts; here I am; semicolon count = 4 ;-)

Now on to the blog topic: filters. With all the decisions we make on a daily basis, I'm blown away by the complexity of the human mind. So many thoughts originating from who knows where. I've found the following filters to be helpful as I examine my thoughts and make decisions. Check them out -
  1. Encouraging vs. discouraging. If you take a thought and really examine it, you can make the following assessment: if it's encouraging, then it's worth holding onto; if it's discouraging, then it can't be from God, and it has no value. 'Shout out to Jason for conversations we've had on this during college.
  2. Beneficial vs. harmful to others. If you're on the verge of saying a comment to another human being, you can ask yourself the following: will this benefit or build up this person, or will it harm him/her in some way? I like how Paul puts it, "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up, that it may benefit those who listen" (Ephesians 4:29).
Ok, off to bed. I'm not that bummed about strugglin' to fall asleep; I had a good nap after lunch today, and it gives me an opportunity to reflect. Worth it :)
